Public institutions required to become eco

Nov 11, 2009

The Environment Ministry held on Monday, the 9th of November, a meeting with representatives of public institutions in order to present the National Action Plan for Green Public Procurement. Public institutions will be required since 2011 to meet targets imposed by EU in terms of the acquisition of green products.

"The main purpose of the program is to increase the share of environment-friendly goods and services purchased by public institutions," said Catalin Cornea, public manager in the Ministry of Environment. According to him, the priorities are to establish the legal framework, setting voluntary and mandatory targets for specific products and services and to stimulate the market for organic products.

The main categories of products and services for which public institutions can make environmentally friendly acquisitions are works in construction, lighting equipment, transport, organic food and drinks, furniture and IT equipment.
